Charlotte Houck was born in Walton, NY in 1918. She attended and graduated from Nyack Missionary College. Charlotte did linguistics training at the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
She served as a missionary for 2 years in Sidney, N.Y., 11 years in Kentucky, 20 months in Mexico and 31 years in the Philippines. She retired from the mission field at age 70 and came to the Wycliffe Center at Waxhaw, NC. She has lived in Waxhaw since 1988. She was able to make a return visit to the Philippines a few years ago to see former coworkers and Philippine nationals who were in her literacy classes.
Now at age 91 she is giving up her independence and home in order to move to a progressive care facility. She is hoping to come back to New York and live where her life story all began.
